How to Create an Ethereal Garden Oasis for Your Next Party

If you’re looking to spice up your next party, consider making things just a little more magical by creating an otherworldly oasis in your own backyard. These parties can enchant your visitors at both day and night. It’s easy to create an enchanting oasis in just a few simple steps.

1. Incorporate White Lighting

When possible and being safe, use candles and lanterns to light the way. While twinkle lights or other soft landscaping lighting can be a great, safe substitute for candles or torches, try to stick with white to give your garden an ethereal glow.

2. Use Translucent Shades

Help your guests feel relaxed and enchanted with white or silver shades. Hang sheer and shimmery curtains or plant elegant white stems as an additional accent. Get playful with your florals to find luminous shades and then design the rest of your outdoor decor to match. Consider planting flowers like irises, roses, or lupines for a low-maintenance backdrop to your garden party.

3. Provide Seating

Make sure your guests can relax in style by creating several different seating areas. Intersperse patio chaises or sofas throughout your garden. Spread out different seating arrangements to create an open space and to encourage guests to explore. Experiment with different types of seating, like swings or beds, and accent it with features like small waterfalls, blooming plants, or dynamic views.

4. Repel Pesky Insects Naturally

Keep those pesky mosquitoes and other insects away by planting aromatic herbs such as lavender, rosemary, sage, or lemongrass. You can burn citronella candles or even install slow-moving fans to produce a gentle breeze and therapeutic environment while ushering away the bugs at the same time.

5. Keep the Drinks and Music Flowing

Install outdoor tables and bars to make sure everyone is well-fed and hydrated. Consider serving exotic beverages like floral-infused water or cocktails, and decorate your serving stations with lights and sheer tapestries.  Small details like flower petals in pitchers of water can transport your party from ordinary to out-of-this-world.

Install or display speakers around your backyard space to allow the sounds of relaxation spread among your guests. There are several types of outdoor speakers available that are camouflaged to look like rocks or that can be placed inside containers or shrubs so that your guests can’t even see where the tranquil sounds are coming from.

6. Cue the Waterworks

Water features invoke the feeling of vacation, so incorporating features like small waterfalls, koi ponds, or other waterworks will make your guests feel like they’ve embarked on an exotic escape. The sound of water can be reflective and calming, and muffle the sounds of traffic to truly separate your guests from reality.

7. Create Variety

Use landscaping features like elegantly positioned flowers, shrubs, and stonework to add flair to your backyard decorating. While this step takes some forethought, you can easily create a serene, soothing environment by creating stone walls and pathways throughout your garden. This can help link different living spaces around your lawn, and even create designated areas for activities like bonfires and mealtime.

Surprise your guests with unexpected landscaping features, like garden art, sculptures, or looped walkways. Consider installing a footbridge or fountain in an unexpected location to keep your guests always on the lookout for new surprises.

While you’re at it, add some features to keep your guests comfortable. Umbrellas will help keep them shaded beneath the hot sun, while a fire pit will give your yard an after-hours glow late into the evening. Consider planting hedges or install vine-covered fences to shield your backyard oasis from neighboring properties, or use shrubs to conceal unsightly views.
